President Zelenskyy to speak at ONS 2022

ONS is honoured to welcome the president of Ukraine as a speaker at the Opening Ceremony of ONS in Stavanger on August 29. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will join live by video-link from Kyiv. The opening of the world-leading meeting place for discussions on energy will be the second time Zelenskyy “visits” Norway, since addressing the Norwegian parliament in March.

United energy community

“We look forward to showing our support to Ukraine and its people, to show solidarity and stand by their side for the long run. As a united energy community, it is an important message to convey and at the same time we have invited the Ukrainian head of state to share his reflections on the need for changes in the energy system,” says CEO and president for ONS, Leif Johan Sevland.

Energy security on the agenda

The war in Ukraine has challenged Europe’s energy security and shown how vulnerable we are. The consequences are felt by all, with uncertainty and record high prices on fuel and electricity, both in Europe and the rest of the World.

President Zelenskyy will be introduced by the Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, and will be followed on stage by Elon Musk, Ben Van Beurden (CEO, Shell), Patrick Pouyanné (CEO, TotalEnergies) and Anders Opedal (CEO, Equinor) among others.

TRUST - main theme

“The main theme for the ONS Conference and Exhibition 2022 is TRUST. The energy industry is not unaccustomed to change but is now facing new circumstances and expectations far more complex – at an unprecedented pace. How does trust play into this? Our theme will be part of all ONS discussions this year, also at other such as arenas ONS Net Zero Markets and ONS Centre Court”, says Sevland.

ONS looks forward to welcoming some of the biggest names within the energy industry, to take part of discussions on how the world should face the twin challenge of security of supply and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
